This is a little taste of my favorite way to train. These HIIT (high intensity interval training) circuits are gaining popularity due to some of their awesome benefits.
My favorite thing about HIIT is it's hormonal influence on the body. HIIT improves insulin sensitivity, which helps the exercising muscles more readily use glucose for fuel to make energy.
In short, the better your insulin sensitivity is, the more efficient your insulin is at its job and the less you need to process your carbohydrates. So when you eat carb rich foods you don't get a massive spike in insulin.
Opposite to that, when you are insulin resistant, (pre diabetic or diabetic) your body isn't very efficient with insulin. You need more insulin to carry glucose into cells and while ever you have high levels of insulin you will store rather than burn fat.
Remember: High circulating insulin = fat storage. Low circulating insulin = fat burning. We lower circulating insulin by improving insulin sensitivity which can be achieved with HIIT!
